What Do You Do To Be A Better You?

Campfire At Wilderness Campsite

In this world where we’re going a million miles an hour and we’re plugged in 24/7, how many of you find it difficult to really slow down and connect?  Connect to the people you care about most?  Connect to yourself and find a way to hear your own voice in the cacophony that is life?  I would venture to guess that many of us have trouble with that these days.  The thing is, it’s impossible to continue at that pace and still maintain a level of excellence.   Something gives.  Whether it’s our relationships, our health, our attitudes, or our effectiveness, we cannot bring our best if we haven’t recharged.

For me, there’s nothing more renewing than to spend time out in nature.  I suspect growing-up in NW Montana has something to do with that.  When I was growing up, our home was perched high on a hill, providing a vista where I could see for miles.  There weren’t many other houses around, so everywhere I looked I just saw nature.  With the pastures in the foreground, forests at our back, and the mountains in the distance, I would sit there for hours and just…think and dream and..be.

So this weekend I’m off to some camping in the mountains to renew!  To sit fireside, hike, and gaze at the stars with friends.  To think and dream and be…

I’m exited about making the time for renewal – as I know I’ll be a better me on the other side.

I hope that you find a way to do the same.  You deserve it!  What do you do to be a better you?  How do you renew?

Greetings from Fort Worth and District 25 Toastmasters. One of my most memorable district conferences was the one where you were one of our keynote speakers.

My wife and I are avid RVers. Our time spent in our RV, away from the “clutter” of life, is very precious to us. We get away as much as possible. Since I am an IT manager and she a CFO, there are times when we’re in the great outdoors that we have to be connected, more often than we like. There are times it gets out of hand.

We’ve now designated “unplugged” days while we’re on vacation when we are truly unplugged and focused on each other as well as our surroundings.

I hope you’re having a great time camping. Relax and enjoy the time in nature and with your family.

Hi Chuck! I love designated “unplugged” days! We unplugged all weekend, along with our nine year old, and it was lovely to connect. You are a wise man, my friend! Here’s to all of us unplugging in order to connect a bit more often! Thanks so much for sharing.
