What’s Your Purpose?

bigstock_Antique_brass_compass_over_old_14768351Hugo Cabret:  Everything has a purpose, clocks tell you the time, trains takes you to places. I’d imagine the whole world was one big machine. Machines never come with any extra parts, you know. They always come with the exact amount they need. So I figured if the entire world was one big machine… I couldn’t be an extra part. I had to be here for some reason. And that means you have to be here for some reason, too….  Maybe that’s why a broken machine always makes me a little sad, because it isn’t able to do what it was meant to do… Maybe it’s the same with people. If you lose your purpose… it’s like you’re broken.

Hugo, Directed by Martin Scorsese, Screenplay by John Logan (Based on Brian Selznick’s bestselling novel The Invention of Hugo Cabret)

Last night we watched Hugo.  It was my second time.  When you have an eight year old you get to do these things.  I wept.  For the second time.  What a beautiful film!
I’ve met so many people on my journey who haven’t found their purpose, or have lost their purpose, and experience themselves as “broken”.  But I agree with Hugo.  There are no “extra parts”.  We’re all here for some reason.  I feel so grateful to get to help people figure that out.  My purpose!  Maybe that’s why this movie touches me as it does.
Do yourself a favor.  Watch Hugo.
